Hayes Carll
Described by some as a Kerouac for generation Y, Hayes Carll, has built his reputation on hard graft and long tours, approx two hundred shows a year, virtually living on the road and at airports.
It's more than possible he sometimes got a little weary along the way and that that slightly sardonic view of life has crept into his writing. Heck the world isn't always rose tinted.
He even risked a backlash against his recorded work when he released "She Left Me For Jesus" a highly tongue in cheek dig at the worst aspects of the country scene
The thing that allows him to get away with such things is his sense of panache. Hayes Carll is a showman. A hundred years ago he'd have left a town having sold gallons of snake oil. These days he can be a bit more honest and just move on the cds.
I'm not hugely familiar with his work, but what I have heard makes me very inclined to check him out.
